Lunacon Construction Group celebrates the completion and ribbon-cutting of playground and athletic facility improvements at Sun Lakes Park in West Kendall.
A park can be a playground, a basketball court, a walking path, or simply a place to spend an afternoon with family. But its impact can reach far beyond the amenities it provides.
Lunacon Construction Group was proud to celebrate the ribbon-cutting of the newly improved Sun Lakes Park in West Kendall, marking the completion of a project centered on recreation, accessibility, nature, and community.
The improvements create new opportunities for children and families to play, connect, stay active, and enjoy a public space designed to serve people of different ages and abilities.

Parks Are More Than Playgrounds
During the opening ceremony, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Roberto Gonzalez, District 11, reflected on the role parks played in his own childhood and why investments in public spaces continue to matter.
Growing up, Commissioner Gonzalez shared that his family did not always have the resources for expensive activities during the summer. Parks and libraries became places where he could spend time, learn, play, and belong.
His message captured what projects like Sun Lakes Park ultimately represent:
Parks provide opportunity. Parks create connection. And for many families, parks can provide hope.

He also highlighted the importance of residents being able to see their tax dollars invested in tangible improvements that directly benefit their neighborhoods and quality of life.
For Lunacon, that purpose is what makes community-focused construction especially meaningful.

A Park Designed for Recreation, Accessibility, and Nature
The Sun Lakes Park improvements were thoughtfully planned to enhance recreational opportunities while respecting the park’s existing natural environment.
The completed project includes:
The completed project includes:
- A nature-inspired embankment play area with elevated climbing features
- Fully ADA-accessible play zones and pathways
- Two new basketball courts
- Landscape enhancements throughout the park
- High-efficiency irrigation improvements
- Improvements designed around preserving and protecting the park's mature tree canopy

Together, these elements create a park that is more inclusive, functional, and welcoming for the West Kendall community.
Accessibility That Creates Opportunity
Accessibility was an important part of the improvements at Sun Lakes Park.
The inclusion of ADA-accessible play areas and pathways helps create an environment where more children and families can experience and enjoy the park together.
Thoughtful public construction goes beyond meeting requirements. It considers how a space will actually be used and how design and construction decisions can help remove barriers for the people the facility is intended to serve.
By incorporating accessible circulation and recreational areas into the park improvements, the project helps create a more inclusive community space.

Building Around the Existing Environment
Another important part of the project was enhancing the park without losing the natural qualities that make it special.
The new play environment draws inspiration from nature, while landscaping and irrigation improvements were designed with the park’s mature tree canopy in mind.
High-efficiency irrigation supports responsible water use while helping maintain healthy landscaping over the long term.
This approach reflects an important principle in community construction: sometimes building better doesn’t mean replacing what already exists. It means finding thoughtful ways to improve a space while preserving the characteristics the community already values.

More Opportunities to Play and Connect
The addition of two new basketball courts expands the recreational opportunities available at Sun Lakes Park and creates another gathering place for the community.
Whether it’s children exploring the playground, families spending time outdoors, neighbors meeting one another, or athletes gathering for a game, parks create the everyday moments that help strengthen communities.
These are the spaces where relationships are formed and memories are made.

Celebrating the People Behind the Project
The ribbon-cutting brought together Miami-Dade County leadership, the Parks Department, community members, project partners, and the teams who helped turn the plans for Sun Lakes Park into reality.
Completing a public project requires collaboration from many people—from the earliest stages of planning and design through construction, inspections, and final delivery.

Lunacon Construction Group is grateful to everyone whose work and partnership contributed to this milestone.
We are especially thankful to Miami-Dade County, Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces, and Commissioner Roberto Gonzalez for their continued investment in public spaces that improve the quality of life for residents.

Building Communities That Last
For Lunacon, the completion of Sun Lakes Park represents more than another finished construction project.
It represents children having a new place to play.
It represents residents having more opportunities to stay active.
It represents families having an accessible community space where they can spend time together.
And it represents public investment becoming something residents can see, experience, and enjoy.
We are proud of the craftsmanship and commitment our team brought to every phase of this project and honored to have played a part in creating a space that will serve West Kendall for years to come.
As Commissioner Gonzalez reminded those gathered at the ceremony, parks have the ability to make a lasting impact on people’s lives.
At Lunacon Construction Group, we are proud to help build the places where that impact happens.
Here’s to a new chapter for Sun Lakes Park—and to building stronger communities, one project at a time.
